Fluorocarbon Polymers

Epidemiology

  • First reported in 1990’s

Exposure

  • Water-Proofing Leather and Fabric Sprays: these represent most of the reported cases (and are seen in consumers with home use of these agents)
  • Construction
  • Grout Sealing
  • Floor Stain Protection
  • Rust-Proofing Spray
  • Ski Waxing

Physiology

  • Inhalational Exposure to Aerosolized Fluorocarbon Polymers
    • Does not need to be in an enclosed space
    • Exposures vary in terms of ventilation in area of exposure

Clinical

  • Pneumonitis (see Pneumonia, [[Pneumonia]])
    • Clinical: onset within several hours after exposure to spray polymer

Treatment

  • Supportive Care
