Chondrosarcoma

Physiology

  • Malignant Tracheal Tumor
  • Hematogenous dissemination to lungs (occasionally direct extension)

Diagnosis

  • CXR/Chest CT Pattern: 3 mm-6 cm (of various size) round, sharply-defined nodules with lower-lobe predilection
    • Chondrosarcoma: may show calcification
    • Usually absent hilar/ mediastinal nodes

Clinical Presentations

  • Tracheal Chondrosarcoma
    • Tracheal Obstruction (see [[Obstructive Lung Disease]])
    • Treatment: surgical tracheal resection with adjuvant XRT
      • Surgery is contraindicated in cases with extensive airway involvement, mediastinal invasion, or metastases
  • Metastases to Lungs
    • Lung Nodules (see [[Lung Nodule or Mass]]):
