Indications


Pharmacology

  • Epithelial Sodium Channel (ENaC) Antagonist (see Epithelial Sodium Channel Antagonists, [[Epithelial Sodium Channel Antagonists]]): these agents act to close sodium channels on the luminal membrane of cells in the collecting tubule (collecting tubule is the site of action of aldosterone)
    • Inhibits sodium reabsorption in the late distal convoluted tubules, connecting tubules, and collecting ducts
    • Acts as potassium-sparing diuretic
    • Same mechanism as that of Triamterene (see Triamterene, [[Triamterene]])
