Epidemiology
- Occurs in patients with chronic anemia
Physiology
- Extramedullary hematopoiesis of the pleura
Clinical Presentations
- Pleural Effusion (see [[Pleural Effusion-Exudate]], [[Pleural Effusion-Bloody Effusion]], and [[Pleural Effusion-Hemothorax]])
- Typically bloody and contains granulocytic and erythroid progenitors and megakaryocytes
Treatment
- Low-dose XRT: may be required
